I'm currently 1/3 of the way through my 12-week body transformation challenge, which culminates in a Men's Health style photoshoot on the week of my 31st birthday in October.
The challenge has been on my 'to do' list since I began training seriously in 2014, and after pondering and considering it, I spoke to my coach/mentor Mick Blythe about guiding me through the process.
It's easy as a coach to talk, but you need to walk the walk at some stage. Although I am only 33.3% of the way through, it's been tough. The truth is, I'm battered. Training sessions are brutal, I feel hungry a lot of the time, and I'm spending large amounts of my time out of the gym recovering when I'm not working or undertaking sessions.
For the first time, I'm experimenting with pre-workout supplements and getting positive responses from my body. They are helping me get through the day and give my absolute best in and out of sessions.
Many might have you believe that this is an easy process. The reality is it is a hard slog, and I've not even scratched the surface. On the days when my weight fluctuates, even as a coach myself, I often panic.
"What have I done? Have I let it slip? Why has this happened?"
I've even found myself questioning in these last few weeks if it's worth it. But through the guidance of Mick, I'm in safe northern hands.
I said I needed to push myself out of my comfort zone, which is easier said than done. We continue to strive, move forward and go where I haven't been before.
Bring on the next eight weeks.
